Learn the right way

Horse riding lessons

In the KBE program lessons are all private instruction. In our program we focus on riding safely and having fun, while developing an independent seat, soft, steady hands and a solid lower leg. All of our students move at their own pace and we set realistic goals for each individual.

Private lesson for you on our farm with one of our lesson horses. An ASTM/SEI certified helmet, long pants, and boots with a heel are required. All students are required to sign a liability waiver form PRIOR to handling or riding any horses at Los Gatos Farm.

Riding lesson rates

We offer two lesson rate options. If you are interested in a single one-time lesson:

  • 60 Minute Private Lesson on Our Horses – $120

Pay by Month rate:

Our riding school caters to a monthly based program. You pay at your first lesson of the month for the total number of lessons you will have in that month.

The monthly based program rate:

  • $110 per lesson for one lesson per week
  • $100 per lesson for two lessons per week

For the Pay By Month rate, we require a written 30 day notice to cancel lessons to allow us time to be sure we can fill the spot or rearrange our schedules accordingly.

Safety

Our priority is teaching you how to ride in a safe and fun way,

Building a strong foundation

We believe that horsemanship and ground work is just as important as riding.

Experienced instructor

Kat Black is a certified horse instructor with over 15 years of experience.

Flexible Pace

All of our students move at their own pace and we set realistic goals for each individual.

An important note for our mounted lessons:

For the safety of the horse and rider, we do have weight limits that our horses can carry.  The industry standard indicates that most horses can carry safely 20% of their body weight – which includes the rider and the saddle.  This means that a typical 1100 pound horse can carry about 220 pounds. The typical western saddle weighs about 35 pounds. This leaves about 185 pounds for the rider. Thank you for understanding the limits of a horse’s back. We welcome all equestrians to our horsemanship lessons, where they can enjoy the benifits of horse partnership, through listening and communicating from the ground.

Reviews from our clients

Katherine is an amazing trainer. Katherine has done wonders with my daughter’s confidence with horses. Katherine’s ability to teach children about horses and horseback riding is truly exceptional. Her deep passion for horses and teaching is evident in every lesson she delivers. She creates a warm and supportive environment where children can learn and develop their equestrian skills while fostering a love for horses.

Katherine is phenomenal!! She truly has it ALL. She has the expertise and extensive training along with the compassion and love for both the horses and her students. If you or your child gets the opportunity to work with her you have struck GOLD!! Our son started riding with her just before he turned 8 and he is now nearing 14. We can’t imagine him having a better trainer and importantly neither can he. We can’t say enough positive things about her.

Rebecca M.

I’ve been learning from Katherine for just under three years now, and I couldn’t be luckier to have her as my riding instructor. She has truly mastered the balance of pushing you to work hard while still being patient and understanding. If you’re looking for an instructor that’s extremely knowledgeable about horse treatment and riding, Katherine is perfect.
